"He wasn't fully in charge" - Former WWE star on the power struggle between Triple H and Vince McMahon in 2023
A former WWE Superstar has disclosed that Vince McMahon and Triple H had a power struggle in the company last year. Formerly known as Cameron Grimes, Trevor Lee stated that The Game wasn't "fully in charge."
The former chairman of the board publicly announced his retirement in 2022 after allegations of sexual misconduct, only for him to force his way back into WWE in January last year. The Cerebral Assassin was the head of creative during McMahon's absence, but the latter interjected himself back into the process.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo in a recent interview, Trevor Lee reflected on his main roster run and stated that there was a power struggle between Triple H and Vince McMahon as the former WWE CEO used to change the script and didn't like NXT stars.
"At the very beginning, when I got drafted there, there was still kind of a power struggle happening; Vince was gone, but he wasn't gone, and Hunter was in charge, but he wasn't fully in charge. So what I would know is that I would be on the script, and then it would go to Vince, and he would change the script. And I don't think he really liked NXT guys," said Trevor Lee. [26:14-26:38]
He added:
"So, the changes that would always happen would be me being taken off the show. That happened for a couple of months until finally Vince was completely gone, and now Hunter was in charge. And then it became the question of how to reintroduce this guy who hasn’t been on TV for a few months and hasn’t really done much; how do we reintroduce him back into a show that is so hot at the moment," he said.
