"He was my hero growing up" - 7-time WWE champion reacts after destroying Gunther on RAW
Gunther had a rough night on WWE RAW. A seven-time champion reacted after destroying the World Heavyweight Champion on the show.
Sami Zayn didn't miss an opportunity to join Bret Hart in the ring on the latest episode of RAW. He did so after Gunther came out to ridicule the legend and claim that Bill Goldberg was his favorite WWE Superstar.
Zayn challenged Gunther for a World Heavyweight Championship yet again on Monday night, but The Ring General decided to walk away again. After Bret Hart called Gunther a coward, Zayn seized the opportunity to reverse a chop attempt from the World Heavyweight Champion before sending him into the ring post and leaving him down and out.
Following the massive segment on RAW, Sami Zayn appeared on RAW Talk backstage to talk about being a Flames fan and being a big fan of Bret Hart.
"You actually caught me at a really strange time because I’m feeling really emotional, to be honest. I’m wearing this jersey, not because I’m a Flames fan, everyone knows I’m a Canadiens guy, but to honor Johnny Gaudreau, who tragically passed away. I don’t know, it just makes you think about the time you have here and what you do with it, and to be able to share the ring with [Bret Hart], he was my hero growing up. To share the ring with him in Calgary, the significance, it’s not lost on me. So I’m in a really strange kind of head space," Sami stated.
He continued that listening to Hart talk on RAW lit a fire in him. That allowed him to go after The Ring General again.
"But listening to him talk also kind of lit a fire under me. To hear him talk about what it meant to be a champion, and a Canadian champion. Listening to him, I realized, man, we haven’t had that in a long time, and I want it to be me. I want it to be me. I want to honor his legacy. I want to honor the template that he laid out for guys like me. So Gunther’s got something that, as far as I’m concerned, it’s on borrowed time because I’m coming. I’m coming for the World Heavyweight Championship," Zayn concluded. (H/T Fightful)
WWE fans will likely get a World Heavyweight Championship match between the two superstars at Bad Blood. It would be one of the biggest contests on the show if it is confirmed.
Gunther lost his previous title to Sami Zayn at WWE WrestleMania XL
The Ring General has quite the reputation for holding titles for record reigns in WWE. He had a great run with the NXT UK Championship before breaking the Intercontinental Championship reign record.
Sami Zayn became the first man to pin Gunther on the main roster after his move to RAW. He did so at WWE WrestleMania XL to win the Intercontinental Championship.
Therefore, the odds will be in The Master Strategist's favor once again whenever these two top stars collide for the World Heavyweight Championship. They could put on another incredible show before Zayn helps Gunther solidify his World Heavyweight Title reign in WWE.
