"He’s a great technician" - Kurt Angle praises reigning WWE champion; compares him to legends like Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently praised the reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther's wrestling abilities. The veteran also compared The Ring General to legendary wrestlers Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit.
Gunther defeated Damian Priest to capture the World Heavyweight Championship in the sports entertainment juggernaut at SummerSlam 2024. The 37-year-old subsequently defended his title successfully against Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin.
For those unaware, at the 2023 RAW is XXX show, the Olympic Gold Medalist officiated a six-man tag team match as a special guest referee that featured Seth Rollins and The Street Profits defeating the Imperium in the ring.
During a virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest, the WWE Hall of Famer heaped praise on Gunther's in-ring prowess. Kurt Angle expressed his belief that if he were in his prime, a match between them would be considered among the greatest of all time, comparable to his legendary bouts against Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit.
"Great talent. I love his talent. He is [a throwback] and he’s a great technician. Really good. I don’t wanna be in front of any of his chops, though. Yes, yes [I would have looked forward to that match in my prime]. I think it’d be a really good match. I would put it up there with Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit. I think he’s really that good," said Angle. [H/T: POST Wrestling]

Former writer says Gunther won't lose his title until massive WWE star returns
Freddie Prinze Jr., a former WWE writer, predicted how long The Ring General would hold onto the World Heavyweight Championship.
On his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Prinze mentioned that Gunther wouldn't lose his world title until Seth Rollins makes his return to the sports entertainment giant. The Visionary has been out of in-ring action ever since 'Big' Bronson Reed brutally attacked him on an episode of Monday Night RAW.
"I feel like no one beats him until Seth Rollins comes back. (...) You can take that to the bank on the next pay-per-view or premium live event when we make picks, I'm picking Gunther versus the field until Seth Rollins comes back," Prinze Jr. said.
The Imperium leader once again denied Sami Zayn a championship shot on this week's red brand show. Only time will tell if Sami Zayn vs. Gunther will be booked for WWE Bad Blood PLE.
