"He did not want me there" - Former WWE writer recalls uncomfortable interaction with John Cena
WWE Superstar John Cena already has a Hall of Fame-worthy career in the wrestling business. But former WWE writer and Hollywood star Freddie Prinze Jr. recently spoke about his complex relationship with the megastar.
Freddie and Cena worked for the wrestling juggernaut during the PG era. While Freddie was part of the creative staff writing weekly shows and premium live events, Cena was the biggest star in the WWE, carrying the company through that era.
During a recent episode of Wrestling with Freddie, the former writer recalled how his first meeting with The Cenation Leader went. He mentioned how John Cena initially ignored him. However, when Cena came back and finally spoke to him, it was a taunt about his credentials landing him a job in WWE.
"When I got there, he did not want me there. At all. And I remember the first time I got there, I was super polite, put my hand out to shake his hand, and he walked right past and didn't even acknowledge me. I think somebody said something because a few minutes later, he came up to me and he goes, 'Hey, I'm John,' and he put his hand out and I shook his hand. I go, 'Hey, I'm Freddie. Nice to meet you,' and he goes, 'I guess they let anybody work here,' words to that effect." [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
John Cena recently announced his retirement
At Money in the Bank this year, John Cena dropped a bombshell on the WWE Universe. The Cenation leader announced that he would soon be retiring from wrestling.
During the post-show press conference, Cena detailed how he would have one final run in 2025, and be part of the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and even WrestleMania. The Franchise Player urged WWE fans to be part of this last run before he finally hangs up his boots for good.
The 16-time World Champ didn't speak much about his opponents or if he would like to go after another World Title to finally surpass Ric Flair's record.
It will be interesting to see how things turn out for Mr. Hustle Loyalty & Respect during his farewell tour.
