Heartbreaking loss for 20-year-old despite star-making performance; faction left distraught after Roxanne Perez retains her WWE championship

A young star suffered a heartbreaking loss tonight. Roxanne Perez successfully retained her WWE championship in a hard-fought contest.

Known for her high energy, Thea Hail of Chase University is undoubtedly one of the rising stars on the NXT roster. At just 20, Hail has repeatedly proven that age is just a number as she has gone toe-to-toe with some of the most experienced women in NXT.

Thea Hail has competed in title matches and is still searching for her moment on the brand. Tonight, on the NXT Great American Bash Week 1, she faced Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women's Championship. A win in this match would've made her the youngest Women's Champion in NXT. Hail was aware of this possible record as she brought the fight to The Prodigy. She even came close to making the champion tap out with the Kimura Lock.

However, Perez's experience proved too much for her as she hit the Pop Rox to pick up the win and retain her title. Following the match, Perez celebrated while a disappointed Chase U looked on.

It remains to be seen who will be next in line to face Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women's Championship.
