"I was begging for an opportunity" - Chad Gable on why he agreed to portray unpopular WWE character
Chad Gable has been with WWE for over a decade and the star has portrayed various roles in the promotion during his time. Recently, he spoke about his run as 'Shorty G' under the previous regime.
A few years ago, Gable became 'Shorty G' on WWE television, when Baron Corbin ridiculed him after becoming King Corbin on Friday Night SmackDown. The character was constantly insulted by superstars and made no significant impact on the roster. However, fans sympathized with Gable as many believed the character undermined the star.
During an appearance on Gorilla Position ahead of WWE Clash at the Castle: Scotland, Chad Gable was asked why he portrayed the gimmick, Shorty G. Master Gable revealed he wanted an opportunity and didn't want to make excuses when the management came up with the idea.
"At the time, I wasn't doing anything when I got cast as Shorty G, and I was begging for [an] opportunity.... I've never been a guy thats gonna ask for something and then complain when I'm given whatever it is, and so I embraced it as much as I could and ran with it. Obviously, I would've preferred something else but what it did in the fans' minds almost, is gained a little respect for me and the fact that I didn't walk away or I didn't try to avoid it or just like phone it in when I was given that. I tried to buy in and give them everything I could and I think that has garners a lot of respect from people," Gable said. [From 6:03 to 6:43]

Chad Gable recently lost at WWE Clash at the Castle: Scotland
Chad Gable reached a breaking point after constantly losing and failing to capture the Intercontinental Championship. Master Gable decided to finally turn on the fans, his pupils, and his friends when he attacked Sami Zayn after failing to capture the title yet again on the April 15 edition of RAW in Montreal, Canada.
The former RAW, SmackDown, and NXT Tag Team Champion did finally secure a win over Sami Zayn on the road to King and Queen of the Ring Premium Live Event in a non-title match. However, a small mistake from Otis cost Gable the opportunity to win the Intercontinental Championship once again in the Triple Threat Match that ensued in the PLE.
Later, he got yet another shot at the championship in a one-on-one bout at WWE Clash at the Castle: Scotland. However, the pupils abandoned Master Gable when Maxxine Dupri got hurt in the match's final moments. Otis left Chad Gable's side which allowed Sami Zayn to capitalize and retain the Intercontinental Championship in Scotland.
With him decidedly out of the race for the Intercontinental Championship for now, it bears watching where his storyline goes from here on in WWE. Gable was a victim during Wyatt Sicks' debut on last night's episode of RAW.
