"I brought it up to Vince [McMahon]" - 49-year-old legend opens up about turning heel in WWE

A WWE Hall of Famer shared his two cents on possibly turning heel in the Stamford-based promotion. The name being discussed here is Rey Mysterio, who pitched this major turn to Vince McMahon during the latter's regime.

Mysterio has been in the business for over twenty-plus years, with three World Championships in his bag. Other titles that the Masked Luchador has won in his WWE career include the Intercontinental, United States, Cruiserweight, and the Tag Team Championship.

For the past two decades under Vince McMahon's regime, the 49-year-old has been a fan favorite with a babyface run throughout.

During an appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, the former World Champion was asked if WWE ever thought of turning him into a heel. Rey Mysterio shared that during his alliance with his son, Dominik Mysterio, he did suggest the idea to McMahon, but the plan was scrapped.

"I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together. I brought it up to Vince [McMahon] and it was brief. Like maybe I turn on Dom, and we continue with something along the way. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like, 'No, you’re the babyface that could never be a heel! Like, you’re Ricky Steamboat; nobody can ever see you as a heel; I don’t think they would buy into it!' And I’m kind of glad that I listened and that they didn’t listen to me. Because the best thing that could happen is for Dom to become the heel and be the evil one," he said. [H/T: CVV]

Rey Mysterio reveals his possible WWE retirement timeline

The veteran wrestler locked horns with Jey Uso and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifying Match on WWE RAW last week. However, Rey Mysterio failed to secure his spot in the Men's MITB Ladder Match.

During the same conversation with Chris Van Vliet, the Latino World Order leader questioned if he would be able to perform between the ropes in the upcoming two or three years.

"I don’t until it’s being brought up, and when my wife brings that up, that’s when I pause. I don’t know if I want to do it another two years, three years. I kind of listen to my body and my mindset, because my body’s been feeling great. And with all the benefits that I get from doing things like the cold plunge and the sauna," Rey Mysterio said.

The Hall of Famer is set to face Dirty Dom in a WWE WrestleMania 39 rematch on next week's episode of the flagship show. It will be interesting to see if the legendary wrestler claims another victory over his son next week.
