"I don't buy the passing the buck" - Ex-WWE star slams Ronda Rousey for recent controversial comments
Wrestling veteran Jonathan Coachman recently addressed Ronda Rousey's comments about WWE giving special treatment to Logan Paul.
The 37-year-old UFC Hall of Famer had two runs with the Stamford-based company, during which she won the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships, as well as the Women's Tag Team Championship.
The Baddest Woman on the Planet was also the winner of the Women's Royal Rumble Match 2022, and despite her many accolades several fans and experts constantly questioned her in-ring performances, especially during her second stint.
In a recent interview, Rousey criticized WWE for giving only Logan Paul the time and resources to rehearse and prepare, unlike other stars, including herself. She claimed she had an "instant classic" first match because she had six weeks to prepare. Nevertheless, she never got the same opportunity again.
On the Behind The Turnbuckle podcast, Coachman slammed the former multi-time champion, claiming he had never seen her put in the work while he was in WWE. He also went on to say that she avoids taking ownership of the fact that she did not put in the time and effort required to succeed in the business.
"She recently touched on Logan Paul and said, and this is what drives me insane about certain competitors when they blame other things and blame other people. She said this, Tommy, and I want your reaction to it: 'If I had the preparation time,' and I'm paraphrasing: 'If I had the ability to have the research and the company behind me and all the time to prepare my matches because I had a great first match because I had that time, then I could have done more great things also,'" he said.
The veteran added that it was frustrating to see someone pass the buck without making the effort to work on the craft. He added that top wrestlers like Becky Lynch and some others did not think much of Rousey's in-ring abilities.
"You couple that with Becky Lynch saying: 'She could never wrestle. That first big match was her downfall because everybody expected that.' Seeing all of these quotes and the way that it seems like to me, she hasn't taken ownership of anything during her time in the WWE. And that's a little bit frustrating because I didn't see her one time when I was there, not once, walk out to the ring, work out during the day, put in the time when she had all the time in the world. So, I don't buy the passing the buck, do you?" Coachman asked Tommy Carlucci. [14:22 - 15:23]
WWE United States Champion Logan Paul responded to Ronda Rousey's comments
During a recent appearance on his brother's podcast, BS w/Jake Paul, Logan Paul responded to Ronda Rousey's comments about him receiving special treatment from WWE.
The 29-year-old disclosed that he did not believe her comments were a personal attack on him. Meanwhile, he stated that he has a lot of respect for the former RAW Women's Champion and that he was possibly just used as an example to enable her to express her dissatisfaction about the company's treatment of her.
"I want to approach this from a real mature standpoint because I like Ronda Rousey. What she's done in MMA is incredible. We watched her growing up just snapping arms. I have a lot of respect for Ronda Rousey. Every time I've met her it's been very amicable, so when she's saying that, I don't think it's like a personal attack on me by any means. I don't feel she's coming after me. I feel she's maybe using me as an example to express her dissatisfaction with how she was treated in the WWE. But I can't speak on that because I don't know how she was treated," he said. [H/T: MMA Fighting]
While The United States Champion does not think Rousey is a "hater," he pointed out that the company recognizes his hard work to have good performances and matches.
