"I enjoyed the time" - Top current WWE Star says he's going to be ok after retirement

While retirement could be hard for any WWE Superstar, former WWE champion AJ Styles has seemingly come to terms with what his life would look like following his retirement from pro wrestling. While The Phenomenal One still has a lot of years ahead of him, his recent injury put things into perspective for him, and he isn't exactly repelled by the idea of not being able to wrestle again.

In December 2022, AJ Styles suffered an ankle injury during a house show which put him on the shelf for a few months, and he consequently missed WrestleMania because of it. During rehab, Styles didn't make any on-screen appearances and was focused on recovering so he could get back into the squared circle.

In a recent interview with Sportsmail, AJ Styles detailed his experience during his time off and noted how it affected his perspective on retirement:

"I will tell you this. I thought I might go stir-crazy being stuck at home and not being able do to what I wanted to do, which I did a little bit.", said AJ Styles. "I wanna go when I wanna go and do what I wanna do and when you've got a boot and crutches it just hinders that and it will drive you nuts. That's what drove me crazy, not being unable to be in a wrestling ring as I thought it would. I enjoyed the time, I enjoyed seeing my kids and my wife as it's the first time I've been out this long in my career. So it kind of put things in perspective, like when retirement does come, I'm going to be ok."
Speaking to @DailyMailUK ahead of #WWENOC, @AJStylesOrg said, "It is about time I'm back in the heavyweight title picture, unfortunately, I'm up against Seth Rollins who's probably one of the best. I said a long time ago that he was going to be great."

AJ Styles will compete for the newly introduced World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Night of Champions

Styles' first match following his return from injury saw him take on Rey Mysterio and Edge in a triple-threat qualifier match for the World Heavyweight Championship tournament on SmackDown. Styles picked up the win and capitalized on that momentum later that night in a match against Bobby Lashley.

On the other hand, Seth Rollins managed to win the RAW bracket, which set up Seth Rollins vs AJ Styles for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Night of Champions.
