"I was gonna get paid a million a year," says released WWE star who was earning $750,000 a year

A released WWE star has revealed that he was going to be paid a handsome salary starting next year.

Matt Riddle was released by World Wrestling Entertainment in September last year following an incident at an airport where he caused a commotion. Riddle was one of the hottest acts in WWE and sold tons of merch during his run with Randy Orton.

On the latest edition of The Kurt Angle Show, the WWE Hall of Famer welcomed The King of Bros. Riddle talked about several topics in regards to his run while speaking with Angle. He also revealed that he was going to get paid a large amount of money starting next year.

"Also, I know that they’re making budget cuts regardless, and I was getting paid quite a pretty penny. I don’t know if it was right before RKO Bro or right after, Laurinaitis pulled me into the office. I thought I was in trouble. I didn’t get my vaccine yet. I went in there and they were like, ‘Hey, we want to give you a raise’, and they gave me a substantial raise. It increased every year and this year, I was gonna get paid a million a year," said Riddle.

He continued:

"I was at 750. I mean, last year I cleared my bucket. I did extremely well. I think that was a big contributing factor. I was gonna get paid a million dollars starting next year, but I also think, you know, the merger didn’t help, and then also my behavior didn’t help either." [H/T Clutch Points]

Matt Riddle wrestled a couple of matches following his WWE release

On January 6, 2024, Riddle battled Jacob Fatu at the MLW Kings Of Colosseum event and picked up a win over him. He also wrestled a tag team match and was victorious this time around as well.

It remains to be seen what's next for Matt Riddle in the near future. His ardent fans would love for him to make a big return somewhere down the line.
