"I just don't see it happening" - Major WWE star details why he won't turn heel
WWE is set to host SummerSlam on August 3, and several titles will be on the line in Ohio. Meanwhile, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has addressed the prospect of turning heel and why he hasn't embraced his dark side yet.
After exiting the Stamford-based promotion in 2016, Cody Rhodes worked his way to the top of the independent circuit before becoming a founding member of All Elite Wrestling. During his AEW run, Rhodes portrayed a polarizing character but never truly turned heel.
After joining the global juggernaut in 2022, he established himself as one of the biggest babyfaces of the modern era and finished his story by winning the Undisputed WWE Title in Philadelphia. In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, the host asked Cody Rhodes why he hadn't turned heel and whether he would consider changing his gimmick in the future. Rhodes replied:
“You can do whatever. WWE is such a hot ticket now. It moves on. It’s great to have a quarterback, great to have franchise players or top stars, whatever it might be, but it’s going to move on with or without you there, someone will fill that spot."
After explaining how social media had changed the dynamics of a heel or face turn, Rhodes said he didn't see him playing a villainous character on TV again.
"It only became bigger when we showed up in that arena on Monday and they started chanting it in real-time. That’s where you know the difference between a fad, between this thing and something that okay, this is a wave that’s far far bigger. It could happen for sure. I just don’t see it happening,” Rhodes said. [H/T: Chris Van Vliet]

Cody Rhodes could defend his title at WWE SummerSlam against Solo Sikoa
Earlier this year, Solo Sikoa decided to take the reins of The Bloodline after Roman Reigns failed to defeat Cody Rhodes. After WrestleMania XL, he added Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu to The Bloodline against Paul Heyman's wishes.
Later, Solo Sikoa removed The Wiseman from the group and seemingly made his intentions clear for The Biggest Party of the Summer. In Toronto, he pinned Cody Rhodes and demanded a title match. On the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, The American Nightmare confronted Sikoa.
SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis hasn't officially agreed to the championship match, but Cody Rhodes is ready to defend the title against Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam.
Last Friday, The Bloodline brutally assaulted Randy Orton. Will The Viper play a role in the potential Undisputed WWE Title match on August 3? Only time will tell.
