"I'll be the guy that drags him out of retirement" - Legendary WWE star promises one last match with John Cena
WWE star and legend John Cena recently announced his retirement at Money in the Bank this year. The star made a surprise appearance at the premium live event in Toronto, Canada, this weekend.
At Money in the Bank, John Cena came out to a thunderous pop. He picked up the mic and dropped a bombshell on the crowd. The 16-time champ announced that he would be retiring soon. Cena claimed he would have one final retirement tour that would include his last appearances at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania.
During the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, CM Punk claimed that he immediately texted John to meet him in the back. He joked that the star would probably leave immediately after his segment but was surprised to run into him backstage.
The Straight Edge Superstar also revealed that he told John Cena that he would be the person to drag Mr. Hustle Loyalty & Respect out of retirement for one last match.
"I text him right away and I said, 'Don't leave before you say hi to me' and he texts back, 'Haha have a good one tonight.' And I take that as, 'P*ss off, I'm leaving.' I know he's busy, he's filming Peacemaker. So I figured he's leaving right away, I was pleasantly surprised to run into him afterward and I told him, 'I'll be the guy that drags him out of retirement. This retirement that he says he's gonna adhere to, this is it and when the final one happens, that's gonna be it? Yeah, 15 years and I'll drag him out of retirement."
CM Punk and John Cena have a long history together. In 2011, the two stars possibly had the best singles match in Money in the Bank history.
It will be interesting to see if Punk and Cena cross paths once again in the future.
