"I'll never get over that" - WWE veteran says he is still infuriated with one of Gunther's booking decisions (Exclusive)
Gunther is currently one of the top names on the WWE roster, largely owing to how he has been booked. However, a veteran is apparently still hung up on one of these booking decisions, which he believes was a massive mistake.
While Gunther is a dominant star inside the ropes, his match with Sami Zayn at WrestleMania saw him tasting defeat. Considering this was the first time he was pinned since being on the main roster, this took many by surprise. Vince Russo, in particular, was very taken aback by the decision to have Sami win and has been openly critical of it for months.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo, the former WWE Head writer stated:
"I'll never get over Sami Zayn beating Gunther. I'll just, I'll never get over that. And I can't get over that. I don't know bro, they just, they really have a problem with booking heels strong. I mean, you saw Bron Breakker win the Intercontinental title, he loses it like in 2 weeks. Gunther loses to, you know, Sami, then Gunther loses to Cody... I do know what it is. It's house shows, put the baby over in house shows." [4:41 onwards]
The WWE veteran has previously criticized Sami Zayn's presentation
According to Vince Russo, Sami does not come across as a wrestler who can convincingly beat anyone on the roster.
Speaking on a previous episode of Writing with Russo, the former WWE Head writer stated that he did not take to Sami Zayn right from his days in NXT:
"The next time I saw Sami Zayn was on NXT. I saw the beginning of the angle between him and Kevin Owens, and bro, the problem I have with Sami that I always have has nothing to do with Sami. I don't know Sami. As a casual wrestling fan, I am asking myself, 'Who is this guy going to beat?' This guy ain't gonna beat anybody up. That's not on Sami," said Vince Russo.
It remains to be seen how WWE books Sami Zayn down the line in the active scene.
