"I didn't text her!" - WWE love triangle heats up; Karmen Petrovic heartbroken
There's a budding love triangle on WWE NXT following Tuesday's episode. It seems like Karmen Petrovic is already heartbroken. Petrovic was caught off guard by Nikkita Lyons' comments backstage while she was talking with Ashante Adonis.
Petrovic and Adonis have seemingly developed a close bond in and out of the ring over the past few weeks. They paired up on Tuesday to defeat Dion Lennox and Brinley Reece in a mixed tag team match.
Things began to heat up backstage after their win. The duo was about to kiss when Nikkita Lyons called out Adonis for not replying to her text. Petrovic looked disappointed and walked off.
"Karmen, wait. I didn't text her!" Adonis claimed.
It will be interesting to see what happens next between Karmen Petrovic, Ashante Adonis, and Nikkita Lyons. Petrovic felt betrayed by what Adonis allegedly did although he pleaded his innocence. Lyons has been flirting with some of the male stars in NXT, including Oba Femi and now Adonis.
Karmen Petrovic reveals origin of her ring name
Just like many WWE Superstars over the years, Karmen Petrovic is just a ring name, and the person behind the character is Monika Klisara. She was a karate practitioner in Canada before joining pro wrestling. Petrovic was born in Bosnia before her family flew from the Bosnian War.
In an interview on The Wrestling Classic Casual Conversations, Petrovic revealed the origins of her ring name. She came up with Karmen, and her second name came from legendary NBA player Drazen Petrovic.
"I suggested just being Karmen and I didn't need a last name, but I said, 'If I do have a last name, I would love to keep my roots.' I wanted to keep my Eastern European background because I know I'm one of the only people in WWE that is Eastern European. (...) Petrovic, I came up with because there was a popular and legendary basketball player, Drazen Petrovic, who was a national hero in Yugoslavia and someone who everyone had good things to say," Petrovic said. Drazen Petrovic played in the NBA for five seasons and his career was cut short in 1993 when he died in a car accident. Petrovic has several statues in Croatia and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
