"I don't think there was one right person" - Gunther on which WWE Superstar deserved to end his title reign; reveals second choice as well

WWE Superstar Gunther shared his two cents on Sami Zayn ending his historic Intercontinental Championship reign and revealed that another wrestler could have done the job as well.

At WrestleMania XL, The Underdog from the Underground dethroned The Ring General, ending his iconic reign as Intercontinental Champion. His dominance lasted for an impressive record-breaking 666 days, surpassing the previous record by a significant margin.

In an interview with the Gorilla Position, The Imperium leader was asked if he thought the former Bloodline member was a worthy challenger to dethrone him. The 35-year-old star noted that there was more than one option for the job, and along with Sami Zayn, Chad Gable could also have pulled off this feat.

"I don't think there was one right person. I think there would have been a few options. Chad is the other one that would have made a lot of sense. Sami is definitely one of those where it was 'he's the right guy to do it.' He's absolutely a fantastic professional wrestler. He has the natural connection with the audience. He's really the underdog that people can connect with and understand the struggle. It's naturally the personality he is. He doesn't look like the perfect athlete. That's not who he is or ever was," he said. [H/T: Fightful]

Gunther further explains why ending his title reigns at WWE WrestleMania 40 was a success

During the same conversation, The Ring General went on to praise Sami Zayn for his special connection with the audience. Gunther shared that being in the ring with The Underdog from the Underground at The Showcase of the Immortals was one of the highlights of his career.

That also adds to the people having a connection because basically nobody in our audience is a perfect person. It's a very human thing to not be perfect. It's very easy to connect with it and to go through those struggles with that person. On top of that, he's fantastic in the ring and has been for years. To do the match with him at the biggest stage possible and go out in the biggest way possible, I was very happy with that. It was a very successful ending to that reign," Gunther continued. On this week's Monday Night RAW, The Imperium leader was upset with Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci losing a tag team match to Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Gunther told the 33-year-old star to take care of the problem, and the latter turned his back on Vinci with a brutal assault. As per reports, Kaiser and The Ring General will still be teaming up on WWE TV despite kicking Vinci out.
