"I do not want people to cheer me" - CM Punk makes massive statement regarding WWE run
CM Punk is one of the hottest talents in WWE today. The Second City Savior recently opened up about a huge aspect of his character that can have vast implications.
Punk is currently a babyface on WWE RAW who recently overcame Drew McIntyre. The two had a trio of matches that saw CM Punk slay The Scottish Warrior to remain on top.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, The Second City Saint revealed that a lot goes into developing a heel character. A superstar must ensure that nobody is cheering for them for their heel character to be successful in WWE.
"I do think it's dangerous. If your role is to be the bad guy, you have to be this dragon for the good guy to slay," Punk said. "I think where you can maybe falter is thinking 'Oh, there's pockets of people that are cheering me. I want them to cheer me.' When I'm a bad guy, I do not want people to cheer me. I don't."
The WWE star is currently playing a babyface character. However, fans could see him turn heel soon as he will get into some new rivalries in the coming weeks.
"Everybody wants to be Jack Burton, Han Solo, Indiana Jones," Punk explained. "He's not completely White Hat but if you know what you're doing, and to me that's the art behind it, is doing that but still maintaining that bad guy slant."
CM Punk also discussed his time in WWE as part of the Straight Edge Society. He noted that many factors could have gotten cheers from fans. However, he had to find out exactly how everyone would hate him.
"I can walk into a high school and talk to kids about not doing drugs and I'm a good guy, or I can walk into an arena, sold out, and talk to people about not doing drugs and I'm a bad guy," CM Punk chuckled. "Preachy, people don't like it. Nobody likes a finger wagged in their face." (H/T Wrestling Inc.)
CM Punk appeared on the latest edition of RAW completely bruised and battered from his match at Bad Blood. He noted that he wasn’t sure what was next for him after taking down Drew McIntyre.
CM Punk could face Seth Rollins en route to WWE WrestleMania 41
The rivalry between CM Punk and Seth Rollins has been on fans’ minds for some time. WWE needs to get the two men in the same ring before fans get over the heat between the two superstars.
The latest edition of RAW saw Rollins and Punk come face to face. However, much more must happen before they can get into a full-blown rivalry.
The Visionary will likely challenge Jey Uso for the Intercontinental Championship before losing the match thanks to Bronson Reed. He will presumably have a rivalry with Reed before CM Punk can return to action so the two men can go head-to-head.
It would be good to see them kick off their rivalry at Royal Rumble and take it to its conclusion at WrestleMania 41. It would be the perfect way for WWE to utilize these two stars at the show.
