"I was with my wife"- Ex-WWE Champion recalls rejecting intimate invitations from Madonna and another global star
While WWE is fairly mainstream now, that was not the case for a long time. The company became popular among casual fans in the 1980s with Hulk Hogan as its face. The Hulkster recently recalled how he was approached by global icons Madonna and Cher during the peak of his career.
Hulk Hogan is one of the most popular pro wrestlers of all time. The six-time WWE Champion was the face of the company in the 1980s, during which the promotion gained a lot of popularity. He also bridged the gap between pro wrestling and Hollywood by working in numerous movies.
During a recent appearance on the PBD Podcast, Hulk Hogan revealed that he was so popular during his peak that singer Cher sent a limo for him while he was having dinner with his wife.
"I was sitting at the Twin Towers one day with my wife at Vince’s birthday party. This cop comes up, taps me on the shoulder, and I said, 'Yes?' So, now I’m sitting with my wife, right? And the guy goes, 'Oh, Cher sent her limo for you—it’s downstairs. She wants you to come over and have dinner with her.' I didn’t know what to make of it. I said, 'Get out of here, what are you talking about?' It was kind of weird because she just thought she could send a car, and I’d jump in and go running over there. Brother, come on. I was with my wife—I wouldn’t do that anyway."
The Hulkster added that global icon Madonna also invited him over one time. However, the six-time WWE Champion once again rejected the advances.
"She [Madonna] had a party in New York City, and I was at the Garden that night. She sent a car to pick me up to come to her party. And once again, I was with my wife, so I’m not doing that stuff. But yeah, those things catch you off guard, and that’s when you kind of realize that the character crosses over into that world." [H/T- Inside the Ropes]
Hulk Hogan last appeared in WWE in January this year
Hulk Hogan had multiple stints with WWE during his illustrious career. He was last seen on TV programming earlier this year when the company celebrated 40 years of Hulkamania. Hogan appeared in a pre-taped video.
The 71-year-old's last match for the global juggernaut came in 2006 when he defeated Randy Orton after a heated feud between the two. The legendary star wrestled in a few matches in the Indies after that and even signed with TNA Wrestling.
The veteran wrestler retired in 2012. He recently announced that he had signed a five-year Legends contract with WWE.
