"I WILL do exactly this" - Zelina Vega reacts to Hall of Famer claiming WWE missed a moment at Backlash
Zelina Vega has reacted to a WWE Hall of Famer claiming that the company missed a moment at Backlash.
Rhea Ripley defended the SmackDown Women's Championship against Zelina Vega this past Saturday night at Backlash in Puerto Rico. It was Rhea's first title defense since capturing the title from Charlotte Flair at WWE WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles. The crowd was behind Zelina but The Eradicator was too much for her to overcome.
Bully Ray, Mark Henry, and David LaGreca had an interesting conversation about the match at WWE Backlash on Sirius XM's Busted Open. Bully suggested that Vega should have won the title and brought it to her father's grave. Vega's father tragically passed away during the attacks in New York City on September 11, 2001:
"How about just giving Zelina the opportunity to take that championship and go to her father's grave? Just so she can take that championship and go to her dad's grave, the 9/11 memorial, and set that championship down right next to his name," said Bully Ray. [00:11 - 00:44]
Zelina took to Twitter to respond to Bully Ray and said she believes that moment will happen down the line and thanked the Hall of Famer for his comments:
"This would have been the cherry on top but know this, I truly believe that I WILL do exactly this.. I truly, truly believe that I will because then it’s full circle. My promise fulfilled. It will happen… exactly as you beautifully articulated it. Thank you @bullyray5150," tweeted Vega.
Zelina Vega thanks fans after WWE Backlash
Zelina Vega believes WWE Backlash was just the beginning and that she will be a singles champion in the future.
She took to Instagram after the loss to thank the crowd for their support. The 34-year-old said that she wished she could hug everyone in the audience and added that her life has changed forever ever after this past weekend in Puerto Rico:
"I wish I could hug every. single. one of you in the audience and everyone sending their love from home. You have NO IDEA how much this meant to me. This weekend.. my life changed forever. I’m so honored.. so grateful and feel incredibly blessed to have had the support I had last night.. from the fans, my beautiful family, my hero’s, to my coworkers.. to finally hearing HHH say “I’m so proud of you.” …and he was talking to me this time 🥲 I’m crying even typing this," wrote Zelina Vega.
Despite coming up short at Backlash, Zelina Vega is as popular as she ever has been in the company. She is currently aligned with the LWO faction and they were selected by WWE SmackDown in this year's draft.
