"In the ring with CM Punk" - WWE Hall of Famer stunned how 22-year-old star surprisingly "embraced" confrontation with Drew McIntyre's heated rival
CM Punk marked his return to NXT this week when he came out for a very special announcement. However, before he could do what he wanted, he was interrupted by the NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez, who delivered one of her best promos, with The Best in the World in the ring.
Roxanne Perez made a plethora of headlines when she stated that she should have been a Drew McIntyre fan growing up. However, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray feels that wasn't the only part for which she should be praised.
During a recent edition of the Busted Open Podcast, the veteran stated that the best part from the segment was that Roxanne Perez went toe-to-toe on the mic with one of the greatest voices in the history of the industry. He explained how standing in the ring with CM Punk could have brought the fan out in Perez, but she rather remained calm and maintained her cool and stayed true to her character.
"I thought last night was a great spot for Roxanne, and for Giulia, and yes, I thought Roxanne did a great job on the microphone last night. And it’s not about what she said, it’s not about the one-liners, it’s not about everybody going 'Oh!' It’s what I saw from her as a professional. She was unintimidated and she was comfortable. He further added:
"You’re in the ring with CM Punk; it’s very, very easy for you to get starstruck, deer-in-the-headlights, caught up in the moment, and 'Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.' It happens to plenty of wrestlers. It didn’t happen to Roxanne last night; she embraced the opportunity," he added [2:45 onwards]
CM Punk will be the special guest referee in upcoming NXT match
While Roxanne Perez interrupted CM Punk initially, The Best in the World returned to the ring later in the episode. The main event of NXT featured the contract signing between Ethan Page and Trick Williams for the NXT Championship match set for October 1.
The Best in the World made an appearance during the segment and announced that he would be the special guest referee for the title match. This added a lot of anticipation among fans for the brand's debut on the CW Network. Fans will have to wait and see what happens when CM Punk returns to Chicago on October 1, as a special guest referee.
