Injured WWE star may not be back in the ring; sets sights on new 'evolution'
An injured WWE star, who has not wrestled for quite a long time, may not return to the ring and will set his sights on his professional evolution in his new role.
Corey Graves has not wrestled for more than a decade due to history of multiple concussions. Graves recently shared that he has been cleared by several doctors regarding a potential in-ring return, but it seems like he's not interested in wrestling again.
The 40-year-old commentator was promoted to lead play-by-play commentator on WWE SmackDown last February. He explained in an appearance on The Gunz Show last week that he was looking forward to his "evolution" under his new role because only a handful of people succeeded before him.
"Sitting in the colored chair is a blast but trying to steer the ship and avoid the iceberg for a full two-hour show, or however long it may be, it's a pretty daunting task and I'm still getting my feet underneath me. I feel like I came out of the gate pretty strong. I'm feeling confident and comfortable. I'm looking forward to my own evolution and really try to carve my own niche because there haven't been a lot of long-term, play-by-play guys in WWE history," Graves said. [5:28 - 5:54]
Corey Graves unsure if he'll ever wrestle again in WWE
It was revealed by Corey Graves a couple of years ago that he has been cleared to wrestle by several doctors. Graves joined a list of retired wrestlers who were given the green light to return to the ring like Edge, Daniel Bryan and Paige.
However, Graves has never stepped into the ring since then and has been promoted to lead commentator after years of being the color commentator. His real-life brother, Sam Adonis, spoke with Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp and confirmed his status.
Corey has been cleared to wrestle but still has no clue if he wants to return to the ring again. He recently welcomed a son with wife and WWE Superstar Carmella named Dimitri. He also has two older children with his first wife. He has been married to Carmella since April 7, 2022, but the couple had been dating since early 2019.
