"It's all about greed" - WWE veteran lashes out at Triple H's regime for upcoming major change to SmackDown (Exclusive)
Triple H has brought about some major changes to WWE RAW and SmackDown in recent months. A veteran recently commented on an upcoming change to the Friday Night Show that he believes will affect the product.
Former WWE writer Vince Russo is one of the best critics when it comes to the world of sports entertainment. The veteran recently appeared on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s The Coach and Bro Wrestling Show on Backstage Pass, where he was informed about a major change coming to SmackDown.
The host, Jonathan Coachman, reported that SmackDown will move to a three-hour format on the USA Network in January 2025. The change will help the network recover from losing the RAW brand to Netflix in 2025.
Vince Russo commented on the upcoming change under Triple H’s rule. He noted that the company was running after money instead of improving the product.
"It's all about greed. It's not about the quality of the show, and it's all about greed. And the reality of the situation is that they b******** their product when they took that third hour of Monday Night RAW," Vince said.
He noted that Triple H’s management was looking to simply provide more content without aiming to expand the fanbase. This kept the shows in limbo and restricted them from delivering top-notch episodes.
"Didn't learn anything from that because you've got that built-in audience of 1.5 or 1.7 that if you put a test pattern on Monday night or Friday night, they're going to watch it. They're not growing the audience. It's the same people watching it every week, but it's all about the all-mighty dollar," Vince said. "They did major damage to the product when they went to three hours."
Friday Night SmackDown has remained a two-hour show for a long time. It will be interesting to see what Triple H has to offer when it moves to a three-hour format.
Triple H is also managing a time change in WWE RAW’s run
USA Network is preparing for life after WWE RAW as 2024 ends. The show will move to Netflix in January 2025, where it could become a big hit.
The USA Network moved RAW to a two-hour format this month. The show will continue with the same runtime until the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Netflix has not confirmed the show’s runtime.
It will be a challenge for Triple H and his men to deliver more valuable content on the SmackDown brand in 2025. Many WWE Superstars could jump to the brand in 2025 to give the creative team a larger talent pool.
