Jerry Lawler updates WWE fans on his relationship with Jim Ross (Exclusive)
Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross formed a legendary commentary partnership during WWE's Attitude Era in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Lawler recently gave a positive update on his relationship with the current AEW announcer.
Lawler has not commentated since suffering a stroke on February 7, 2023. The 74-year-old signed a WWE Legends contract earlier in 2024. However, his commentary deal with the company was not renewed.
Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter asked Lawler whether he still kept in touch with Ross. The WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2007 inductee confirmed the two were still friends and planned to attend a convention together soon:
"Yes, I do [still talk to Jim Ross]," Lawler said. "As a matter of fact, coming up next week we're meeting up for a, I don't know what you wanna call it, an autograph session. That sorta thing. Yes [a convention], exactly, we're gonna do that." [4:03 – 4:20]

Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross' possible commentary future
In May, news broke that Jerry Lawler was no longer part of WWE's broadcast team. The Memphis legend had been a WWE on-screen personality for three decades before health issues forced him to step away.
After hearing about Lawler's contract situation, Jim Ross said on his Grilling JR podcast that he wants to commentate with his old friend again:
"I felt bad about this week's news about Lawler, my partner. You know, I don’t think that he and I have worked our last match together. I really don’t believe that. I think somewhere down the road, if nothing else it’ll be at an appearance." [H/T F4WOnline]
Lawler and Ross last commentated together in April 2018 on the WrestleMania 34 kickoff show. Later that month, they were also part of the Greatest Royal Rumble kickoff show panel.
