Jey Uso opens up about solo run in WWE while carrying the Anoa'i family legacy

For over a decade, Jey Uso was a tag team wrestler in WWE. The one thing that always stood out in his career, aside from all of his accomplishments in the tag team division and stellar in-ring work, is the fact that he comes from a rich wrestling lineage.

During a recent interview with the Battleground Podcast, Jey discussed carving out a legacy of his own since the summer of 2023, when an organic babyface turn made him one of the hottest acts in the eyes of fans. Despite standing against Roman Reigns, Uso's popularity only grew. If anything, it only further fueled the desire of fans to see him succeed as a solo act.

Main Event Jey spoke candidly about the obvious burdens that came with being a part of the Anoa'i family, as several of his family members were major stars. However, he also feels the change in the industry and product helped ease the process.

"Man, I'll tell you, it's way easier now than it was 15 years ago," Jey informed. "Coming in as a tag team with my brother [Jimmy Uso] that long ago and then just ... We've always had that in our vision, Uce. How can we separate us from our whole d*mn family? You know, 'cause everyone were stars."

The 38-year-old admitted that it was overwhelming at first, but the grind never stopped. He is now recognized as a top singles performer on the roster and is a huge favorite of the WWE Universe. His brothers Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa have also kickstarted their individual singles runs.

"I'm so glad like, I'm on the other side now, I feel like, 'cause now you can separate, you know, Rikishi, Yokuzuna, Umaga, Roman Reigns, now, this is Jey Uso, this is Jimmy Uso, this is Solo Sikoa. Sometimes, Uce, I'm like, man, it's cool being a part of this family. I'm still like kind of a fangirl for my own people, if that makes sense," Jey added. [From 11:02 to 12:36]

Jey Uso is in no rush to become World Heavyweight Champion in WWE

Similar to how things fell into place many years after his WWE debut, Jey Uso is positive that his first world title win will also happen organically. He has already contended for the top prize of the Stamford-based promotion a few of times against the likes of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Damian Priest.

Meanwhile, Tama Tonga of the new Bloodline, and Jey Uso, are preparing for their respective WWE King of the Ring Tournament semifinals, which is set to take place this week on their respective brands in the Stamford-based promotion.
