Jim Cornette heavily criticizes WWE for how its new world champion has been booked so far
Legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette has shared his thoughts on how new World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest was presented on RAW last week. The WWE veteran was not impressed at all.
The Archer of Infamy captured the title for the first time at WrestleMania XL after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. He defeated Drew McIntyre in quick succession, ending the latter's five-minute reign. On RAW last week, Priest was involved in an in-ring segment with The Judgment Day and Awesome Truth, leading to a six-man tag team match featuring John Cena.
Speaking on the latest edition of Jim Cornette's Drive-Thru, the WWE veteran questioned why Damian Priest was booked in a silly skit with R-Truth and The Miz on RAW when he should be taken seriously as the World Heavyweight Champion.
"The promo, why are they treating Priest like he still needs to be interacting with all these foolish children? They gave Priest the belt to further the angle between Punk and McIntyre. Not necessarily to help Priest but to further the angle between Punk and McIntyre, which was brilliant. But they could give Priest something at the same time but just don't have him be stupid with these other people," said Cornette. [1:32-2:16]
Vince Russo thinks WWE will set up Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest for SummerSlam
The Prince and The Punishment had issues with each other in the past, but they managed to settle their differences as they won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship multiple times.
Now that Damian Priest is the World Heavyweight Champion, it's possible that the rift between them could be reignited. Vince Russo said on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW that it could lead to a match between Finn Balor and Priest at WWE SummerSlam 2024.
"Yeah, probably [on Priest possibly facing Balor]. Because they have nothing. And I've been saying for months that they need to break Damian Priest out of that [Judgment Day]. So yeah bro, they think that's gonna be a huge angle with Damian Priest and Finn Balor."
It'll be interesting to see whether this will actually come to fruition. If Balor and Priest engage in a feud, what would it mean for The Judgment Day, especially with Rhea Ripley no longer in the picture?
