WWE News: Jim Ross talks about Hall of Fame induction for Chris Benoit

Good ol’ JR telling it like it is

What's the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross participated in a Q&A session during WrestleMania 33 weekend. One of the questions that were asked was about Chris Benoit and whether or not Jim Ross thought that Benoit deserved to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

In case you didn't know...

Jim Ross lost his dear wife just a few days ago, yet he still put his game face on for WrestleMania 33 and did what he does best, which is entertaining the fans. Ross commentated for The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns match.

It's also worth noting that Jim Ross has since gone on to sign a two-year contract to return to the WWE, but the details of the contract are not yet known.

The heart of the matter:

Matt Striker was on hand to field questions for Jim Ross, while Hannibal TV covered the event. When Ross was asked about Chris Benoit, he did not hold back as he gave his candid thoughts on the matter.

When asked whether or not he thought Benoit should one day be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, JR had this to say:

“Chris Benoit, I don’t think he will ever get in. I don’t think Chris Benoit deserves to get in and I’m ok with my opinion... If there was a line to him, wherever he is, you say ‘hey, should you be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Who do you want to induct you?’

I think he’d say it’ll create too much publicity, it’ll take the importance off of everybody else who is going in, it’s gonna be the talk of the town.”

Here’s a video featuring the interview:

What's next?

Jim Ross is officially back home. While we don't know the exact details of his new contract, we do know that he will be working some select events in the near future.

We also now know the draft is coming back, which will likely shake everything up, Superstars and other on-air staff included.

Author’s take:

Jim Ross is, in my opinion, the absolute greatest commentator in wrestling history. I will always be appreciative for his selfless contributions to the sport.

When it comes to the Chris Benoit situation, my thoughts pretty much mirror the opinions offered by JR. Benoit, while he was a tremendously gifted in-ring performer, can never possibly be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

His actions inside of his home, during his last hours, essentially trump all the accomplishments and accolades he ever achieved.
