Joe Hendry reveals heartwarming John Cena story; calls out the GOAT following retirement announcement
Current TNA Wrestling star Joe Hendry, who made a couple of appearances in NXT recently, shared a personal story involving John Cena. Hendry also called out the GOAT despite his retirement announcement at Money in the Bank.
In last Tuesday's episode of NXT, Hendry made a surprise appearance in the main event and teamed up with Trick Williams. They defeated Shawn Spears and NXT Champion Ethan Page in a tag team match.
In an interview with Denise Salcedo on YouTube, the Scottish superstar shared that the first pro wrestler he ever spoke to was John Cena, and it involved the help of a friend.
"When I was 15 years old, there was a wrestling show. I'd never been to a live wrestling show before. I wanted to go, I couldn't go. My friend went, he got the VIP package and my phone rings, answer the phone. It's my friend Kyle's phone but the person that answered said, 'Yo, it's your boy John Cena.' My friend asked John Cena, 'Look my friend couldn't make it but could you call him?' And John Cena talked to me for 5-10 minutes while there was a huge queue at this VIP thing because my friend told him that I couldn't make it. So John Cena was the first pro wrestler I ever talked to," Hendry said. [15:30 - 16:08]
Based on the timeline that Joe Hendry gave, John Cena was already a WWE Superstar when he spoke with him on the phone. Cena was more than a year into his main roster career and most likely performing as his "Basic Thuganomics" character.
Joe Hendry claims he'll face John Cena in a match
In the same interview with Denise Salcedo, Joe Hendry was asked to predict his future and what's in store for him next year. The TNA Wrestling star made a shocking claim that even took Salcedo by surprise.
"I believe that I will wrestle John Cena. I fully believe that match will happen," Hendry said. [15:00 - 15:08 in the video above]
John Cena announced his retirement from wrestling at Money in the Bank earlier this month. Cena won't be retiring immediately, but 2025 will be his last year performing as a pro wrestler. He is set to have a farewell tour and will likely have some dream matches along the way.
