John Cena to achieve unprecedented accomplishment before retiring in 2025 is possible, says WWE analyst
John Cena is less than a year away from hanging up his boots. A WWE analyst now thinks The Cenation Leader could achieve an unprecedented accomplishment before retiring.
The 16-time world champion made a surprise appearance last night at Money in the Bank to make a stunning announcement. Cena revealed that he plans to retire from in-ring competition next year. Meanwhile, he disclosed that he would have one final run, during which he will compete in the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble match and wrestle for the last time at WrestleMania 41.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts addressed Cena's announcement, suggesting the 47-year-old could win his 17th world title to break his and Ric Flair's record for most world championship reigns recognized by WWE.
"I wonder, over the course of a year, is it outlandish to say that John Cena could get another championship? I would love to see it. (...) Yeah, I mean, I think there's potential championship," he said. [24:09 - 24:51]
John Cena addressed potentially turning heel on his final WWE run
The Leader of Cenation has been the Stamford-based company's top babyface for nearly two decades. During the Money in the Bank press conference, he was asked if he would consider turning heel in his final WWE run.
The 16-time world champion disclosed that it would not happen because it would go against his values.
"So I think, by now, I have to, you know, what? 22 years? I know you'll see me but you won't see me [everyone laughs]. You will get my authentic self and moments of frustration and moments of disappointment. Heck, I can't remember the last time I won a match, you know, I'm in a little bit of a slump. So I guess I don't think in those terms. What I do know is I really try to work hard every day to be as good a human being as I can. So I don't know how much impact that would have because it goes heavily against what I value. I think you would see through it," he said.
John Cena last competed on RAW after WrestleMania. He teamed up with The Awesome Truth to defeat The Judgment Day. It would be interesting to see who Cena's next opponent would be. Cena has won the WWE Championship 13 times and the World Heavyweight Championship thrice in his storied career, among other titles.
