John Cena could break unique record during his retirement tour, feels former WWE rivalĀ

WWE announcer Wade Barrett recently spoke about John Cena possibly winning the elusive 17th world championship. The Franchise Player is currently tied at 16 world titles with the legendary Ric Flair.

This week Cena announced his retirement tour. He made a surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank PLE and mentioned that he would be making several dates in 2025 including the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41, which would be his last 'Mania.

During the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, Barrett mentioned that John Cena had the opportunity to surpass Flair's record. He felt Cena could cement his legacy as the greatest ever if he just won one more World title. He felt this was enough motivation for the Franchise Player to go for the gold.

"Tied at 16 World Championship reigns with Ric Flair and you could be the guy in history. You need any more motivation, there it is. I will not put it past him."

Barrett and Cena were at loggerheads in one of the biggest feuds of their respective careers when Team WWE took on Team Nexus.

During the discussion, former WWE Champion Big E also spoke about Cena's chances. He felt if there was somebody who could do it at this age, it was John Cena.

"Look, Father Time gets us all. He is the greatest of all time in many people's eyes. I don't know, we got a great roster as he alluded to. But if anyone can do it at his age, he can."

Cena said it would be a great storyline by WWE and he would try to execute it to the best of his abilities. It will be interesting to see how John Cena's retirement tour pans out next year.
