John Cena confirms key takeaways of his WWE retirement in 2025
John Cena made an unannounced return to WWE in Toronto, last night. He stole the show by revealing his Retirement Tour. 2025 will be Cena's final year as an in-ring competitor. During his bombshell promo, he added that the 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41, will all be his last.
Now on X (formerly Twitter), Cena confirmed all of the key takeaways from his appearance at Money in the Bank and the post-show press conference. His last match won't be on the grand stage in Las Vegas. He intends to work 30-40 dates next year.
After retiring, he will no longer wear the jorts. Moving on from active in-ring competition, Cena will only be seen in suits. Perhaps the most important detail that the fans can get excited about is John Cena's tease of going after the 17th World Title.
"Pretty much sums it up. The Last Time is Now!" John Cena's message to his fans following Money in the Bank.
Next year WWE RAW is moving to Netflix. Cena mentioned this during his promo. Monday night RAW was the 16-time World Champion's home during the majority of his WWE run. Whether he returns to the red brand full-time or will remain a free agent during his retirement tour remains to be seen.
CM Punk is interested in running back the most important match of his WWE career
During the MITB post-show press conference in Toronto, CM Punk spoke for a bit about John Cena's announcement. He discussed texting the 16-time World Champion to meet up during the event.
The Best in the World articulated their professional relationship as "married" owing to the significance both stars had on each other's careers. Most notably, at the Money in the Bank event itself back in 2011. Punk concluded by teasing one final showdown with Cena:
"It makes me feel proud that I think, if you talk about John's career, you have to talk about me. We're married in that respect. Proud of him, he gets to go out on his terms. I know that's important. I'm looking forward to what he does and I told him that if it's gonna be one more time, we gotta do it one more time."
CM Punk also joked about pulling Cena out of retirement down the line. The Cenation Leader, though, seems firm about his decision to move past in-ring competition.
Aside from The Straight Edge Superstar, one of Cena's most notable rivals from his heyday was Randy Orton. Orton also expressed a desire to step into the ring with his friend one last time. The Viper hopes that it will be for a World Title.
