John Cena details how his retirement talks came about after discussions with WWE

WWE star John Cena recently answered some questions about his retirement. The Franchise Player laid out his retirement plans at Money in the Bank this week.

The host of Money in the Bank Trish Stratus announced John Cena for a surprise appearance in Toronto this week. The 16-time world champion came down to the ring and made a heartbreaking announcement. He shared his retirement plans, much to the heartache of fans in the arena and watching worldwide.

During the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, John Cena detailed how this was an ongoing discussion with WWE. He had shared the idea of a retirement tour and the company decided to run with it.

He saw it as an opportunity to bond with the fans and execute the best storylines for the WWE Universe.

"I think the answer is, it's not up to me. I approached the WWE with this idea and they kind of initiated the talks that this would be a great span of time if we were ever gonna do it. Gosh, this is no thanks to me, but the business has had incredible heights of popularity and awareness, especially the Netflix debut which is very important. I take pride in still being an individual that they [WWE] can call up and say, 'Hey, remember that idea you were talking about, the time is now.' That really warms my heart that not only did my thought resonate of let's do something that we can bring all of us together. All of us can bond and have excitement. They will write the stories and we'll execute the best we can. I'm flattered that I was asked to be part of something like this."

John Cena detailed that next year's WrestleMania 41 would be his last at the Grandest Stage of Them All. However, his farewell will seemingly culminate in December 2025.
