John Cena got heat for making former WWE star look good
John Cena has reached the end of the line with regard to his in-ring career. But before he rides off into the sunset, Cena wants to write an epilogue to arguably his biggest role ever, which is being the face of World Wrestling Entertainment.
Long before he climbed to the top of the food chain, John Cena was an ascending wrestler with a rapper gimmick. Former WWE Superstar Paul London recently reflected on working with him, during which he recalled Cena getting heat for selling too much in one of their matches.
Speaking to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Paul London stated that he and John Cena "got along really well" off-screen. London recalled them working together on an episode of Velocity, where Cena was making him look good:
"Needless to say, we got along really well. So much, in fact, that he got in trouble after that match for giving me too much offense," he laughed for a moment, before remembering, "It was on Velocity, yeah. And I get that point because I wasn't under contract at the time. But I was coming in fairly regularly to the point where I remember one time Johnny Ace was asking me who I wanted to team with and who I wanted to work with." [From 5:30 to 5:45]
He concluded by noting Cena was also once asked in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) what business he had there. In the end, things drastically changed for the wrestler-turned-actor.
Will John Cena challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41?
With WrestleMania 41 being John Cena's final outing on the grand spectacle as an in-ring performer, it is likely WWE will book him in a world title contest. After all, Cena is one win away from breaking the all-time record.
On Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE is in fact looking to book John Cena in one of the two world title matches. With other rumors floating around that Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes could be facing either Roman Reigns or The Rock, or even Randy Orton, perhaps World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is Cena's best bet.
However, The Ring General also seems to have a major opponent in consideration, and that is WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. Wrestling veterans Tommy Dreamer and Bully Ray discussed this potential high-profile match being the WCW legend's swan song, but agreed about one thing: it may not happen at WrestleMania 41.
