John Cena to lose his last match to 44-year-old WWE legend; Sam Roberts explains why it makes sense
John Cena is poised to conclude his illustrious WWE career next year with a Farewell Tour. Wrestling analyst Sam Roberts recently provided insights into why a legendary multi-time world champion defeating The Cenation Leader in his final match makes perfect sense.
Cena's Retirement Tour is set to begin in January 2025, and the wrestling world is buzzing with speculation about his final opponent. Many names have been thrown into the hat, but one name that keeps popping up is Randy Orton.
The Viper and The Franchise Player share a long history, dating back to the early 2010s. The two men have faced off in numerous high-profile matches, including several championship bouts.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts suggested John Cena's last in-ring outing should be a farewell match, similar to The Shield's final match. The wrestling analyst explained that the 44-year-old WWE legend should be the one to emerge victorious in this match, not necessarily to put Randy Orton over but to provide a fitting end to The Champ's notable career.
Roberts emphasized that the goal is to celebrate Cena's legacy and give WWE fans a memorable send-off.
"The point of this is that over the course of a year, multiple people can beat John Cena. It doesn't just have to be the last match. But the last match, the same way like when Mox [Jon Moxley] left WWE, they did one last match with The Shield altogether. It wasn't about putting somebody else over; it was about The Shield because that's what people wanted,'' he said.
Roberts added:
''People love John Cena. The last John Cena match is just going to be about saying goodbye to John Cena, and what better way to say goodbye to John Cena than Randy Orton beating him?'' [From 01:03:12 to 01:03:42]
