John Cena reunited with CM Punk backstage at WWE Money in the Bank
John Cena officially announced his retirement from WWE at the Money in the Bank 2024 premium live event, leaving everyone shocked and heartbroken. While it was a glum revelation, one positive aspect of Cena's appearance at the event was when he reunited with his old rival, CM Punk, backstage.
The Cenation Leader had been the face of World Wrestling Entertainment for a decade and has arguably become one of the greatest wrestling stars ever. Cena was even labeled the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) on commentary owing to his incredible career and his 16 World Championship reigns.
The 16-time champion looks to fully transition to Hollywood after announcing that 2025 will be the final year of his wrestling career in WWE as an in-ring competitor. John Cena would reunite with one of his iconic rivals, CM Punk, backstage at Money in the Bank, sharing a conversation and hugging as the show went on.
CM Punk made a shocking confession about one last match with John Cena
CM Punk made a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank and hugely affected the World title landscape as he attacked Drew McIntyre and cost him the briefcase this time. John Cena would make a surprise appearance at the show too, but for largely different reasons as he announced his retirement tour for next year.
Both these stars have stepped into the ring with each other several times in their legendary careers. Now that the sun is setting on John Cena's wrestling tenure in WWE, we have to wonder if we could ever see them compete against each other again.
Speaking at the Money in the Bank post-show conference, CM Punk went on about how much the Cenation Leader has influenced him, and he's happy that Cena gets to leave on his terms. The Second City Saint would also allude to the idea of getting his ultimate rival in the ring one last time for a match.
"Cena to my career means a lot. I don't think there's [sic] many people up in that rare air where if you talk about my career, I feel like you have to talk about John. It makes me feel proud that I think, if you talk about John's career, you have to talk about me. We're married in that respect. Proud of him, he gets to go out on his terms. I know that's important. I'm looking forward to what he does and I told him that if it's gonna be one more time, we gotta do it one more time."
It's not yet been announced which opponents John Cena will take on inside the ring during his final year. We can hope that amongst his storied past, we will get to see one last showdown between The Champ and The Straight Edge Superstar.
