John Cena and SmackDown megastar are "friendly" backstage; one final match possible in 2025 (Exclusive)
John Cena's "Retirement Tour" is on the horizon and the excitement for his return to WWE has been at an all-time high for fans. While there are several potential stars that The Chain Gang Soldier might face, a match against SmackDown's Cody Rhodes has been anticipated for a long time now.
Cody Rhodes has been on the top of the mountain in WWE lately, courtesy of his massive victory against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL earlier this year. While Rhodes is busy with The Bloodline lately, a match against John Cena would undoubtedly be a treat to watch. Both Cena and Rhodes have shared some backstage moments, which they have addressed on camera as well.
According to WrestleVotes on a live Q&A with Bill Apter on Backstage Pass, a match between both men is possible. Given both are "friendly" backstage, both stars facing each other inside the squared circle is a possibility.
"I think they are friendly backstage. So, I think they probably want to work at least one time together. Now that Cody’s a major star, so I could see it happening," WrestleVotes reported.
While the WWE Universe has been waiting for a potential match between both men, Bill Apter is not a big fan of the idea. During the Q&A, the 79-year-old veteran stated that turning any of them heel would be a big blow for the Stamford-based company.
"I don’t feel that match. I think they could do it. But, I just don’t feel it. That would turn one of them to the fans. Who are they gonna cheer for then? Will they turn Cody into a Nightmare? I don’t think so. And I think they may boo John Cena in a case like that," Bill Apter said.
While the dates for Cena's "Retirement Tour" are yet to be announced, reports have seemingly made it all clear. Only time will tell if WWE is interested in a potential storyline between Cody and John.
