John Cena and The Undertaker would join new Vince McMahon promotion, WWE veteran predicts (Exclusive)
Vince McMahon has not been involved in the wrestling business since leaving WWE. Vince Russo, WWE's head writer in the late 1990s, believes his former boss could be interested in creating a new promotion.
McMahon was WWE's owner and creative figurehead for four decades after purchasing the company from his father in 1982. In January, the 79-year-old resigned from WWE's parent company TKO after former employee Janel Grant accused him of misconduct.
On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo said McMahon would likely want to return to wrestling if he is found innocent. He also speculated that John Cena, Kurt Angle, and The Undertaker would follow their former boss to a new promotion:
"Obviously these people can't be back full-time," Russo stated. "I think he could get people like 'Taker working for him again. I think he could get people like Kurt working for him again. I don't know what Cena's obligations are with the WWE, but Cena would be loyal to him. Bro, I'm telling you, like this [clicks fingers]. If he were innocent and he's clean, a network would pick up a Vince McMahon wrestling show no questions asked." [20:00 – 20:36]
In the video above, Russo told host Dr. Chris Featherstone about a Stephanie McMahon rumor he recently heard.
Vince Russo on one thing that could stop Vince McMahon
If Vince McMahon is not guilty, Vince Russo thinks the former WWE Chairman could recruit Bruce Prichard and Kevin Dunn at a new company. The two men worked closely with McMahon in WWE's creative and production teams, respectively.
In Russo's opinion, health is the only thing that would stand in McMahon's way of trying to take over the wrestling world again:
"Heads will roll," Russo said regarding McMahon possibly being innocent. "I mean, my God, no question. At that point, I'm telling you the only thing that would stop Vince McMahon from starting a new wrestling promotion is his health. That's it. And none of us know what that is. Vince is never gonna show those cards. That would be the only thing, bro, that would stop him from not getting in the game." [18:02 – 18:30]
Russo reported directly to McMahon when he wrote television for WWE in the Attitude Era. In 1999, he joined WCW after his former boss advised him to hire a nanny to look after his children.
