"Just an old man" - CM Punk match labeled a "great dishonor" by 27-year-old WWE star
CM Punk returned to WWE last year at Survivor Series: WarGames in Chicago to shock the entire pro wrestling world. However, Punk's first match back was labeled dishonorable by his opponent, Dominik Mysterio.
After last year's WarGames match, The Second City Saint returned to close the show, much to the delight of the Chicago crowd and the anguish of Seth Rollins. Fast forward to a month later, Punk's first match back was during WWE's Holiday Tour against Dominik.
They had two matches, one in New York and one in California, with Punk winning both times. "Dirty" Dom was asked on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast about his reaction to being chosen as The Straightedge Superstar's first opponent back in WWE after almost a decade.
"I had the great dishonor of welcoming Punk back after 10 long years. It was everything I expected it to be. Just an old man trying to do his thing, thinks he still got it. I'm pretty sure you guys saw the match. He went out there in some plain black underwear, didn't even have his gear and it was definitely a sight to see. Overall, I'm glad the company was able to trust me to get in there with CM Punk," Dominik said. [26:42 - 27:14]
Dominik Mysterio had a tremendous 2023, and it ended with him facing off against CM Punk. The 27-year-old Judgment Day member had a total of 106 matches last year, which was tied for the second most in the company.
CM Punk wants to have a program with Dominik Mysterio
Speaking on 103.5 KISS FM in September, CM Punk opened up about the possibility of having a feud with Dominik Mysterio. Punk felt it would be a great story considering his history with 'Dirty' Dom's father, Rey Mysterio.
"I did some dark matches with Dominik, and I think I could do some pretty great television with him. I think him and Liv [Morgan] are spectacular," Punk said. [H/T: F4WOnline]
Punk had a feud with Rey Mysterio in early 2010 that involved his family, including a young Dominik. They had a series of matches, including one at WrestleMania 26 and a hair vs. mask at Over The Limit, with The Second City Saint getting his long hair shaved.
