Kevin Owens' 'out of shape' physique defended by WWE legend

WWE Superstar Kevin Owens has faced body shaming in the past owing to his physical shape. The Prizefighter nonetheless remains an incredibly popular character despite his recent heel turn.

While discussing the style of wrestling over the years and how it had changed, Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam brought up Owens' name. The legend noted although the Canadian wrestler possibly looked out of shape, that might not be the case. The former WWE Champion backed up his claim by reminding everyone of the difficulty level in pulling off quality in-ring performances, which is something the 40-year-old SmackDown Superstar excels at.

Speaking on his podcast 1 Of A Kind, Van Dam articulated the bridge between the older generation and the new one. He recalled that back in the day, wrestlers were those big guys in bars people hesitated to step up to and that was a selling point. Today though, a wrestler can be spotted in the crowd looking like a regular person.

"Sometimes, in the sport of fighting in general, you got some guys who look like they are out of shape but they are obviously not. Maybe Kevin Owens falls into that," Van Dam said. [From 45:56 to 46:13]

Is Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens on for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Survivor Series: WarGames?

There have been plenty of rumblings in recent weeks regarding Kevin Owens ultimately challenging Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. With Survivor Series: WarGames on November 30 and the return of Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14, the Stamford-based company has a few options on its plate.

However, if the latest episode of SmackDown was any indication, perhaps the rumors are true that The American Nightmare will defend his title against The Prizefighter at the "Big Four" premium live event. Randy Orton was taken out by Kevin Owens on SmackDown with a Piledriver. The Viper was stretchered out of the arena and seemingly written off television for now. It appears that Triple H & Co. could put their rivalry on hold for the time being.

Meanwhile, there is another rumor that Cody Rhodes could once again join Roman Reigns to wage war with Solo Sikoa's Bloodline. And this could happen at Survivor Series: WarGames.

It is also not out of the realm of possibility that The American Nightmare pulls off double duty later this month at the major premium live event.
