Kofi Kingston disregards The New Day's legacy among fans, makes surprising admission

Kofi Kingston waited over a decade to win his first WWE Championship in World Wrestling Entertainment. It happened five years after the inception of The New Day, a novelty act that grew incredibly popular among the product's fanbase.

Kingston, 43, is a career babyface. But evidently, he has had enough of being the good guy. The Ghanaian-born wrestler believes The New Day is the greatest team of all time, and he does not need the validation of fans. Surprisingly, though, he states that him and Xavier Woods will not split any time soon and move on to singles competition, carrying the legacy forward.

In an interview with In The Kliq's Baby Huey, Kofi Kingston shared his honest thoughts on The New Day's state before what transpired this past Monday. He addressed the stagnation saying he feels that people just want them to behave a certain way but that is not how he envisions the future of their team:

"If I'm being honest, I don't really care about what the fans remember about it, because I already know. I already know what we are, you know what I'm saying? So, yeah, you can't argue with the facts, and when it's all said and done, New Day is going to go down as the greatest tag team of all time. So for us right now, we're just trying to add on to that legacy. We're never full. We always stay hungry, and we keep on piling these accolades on until we decide that we don't want to do it anymore. Which won't be anytime soon." [From 13:18 to 13:48]

Former WWE Superstar and tag team specialist, Matt Hardy, believes that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods berating Big E was WWE's giveaway that E is definitely returning to the ring sooner or later.

Kofi Kingston reflects on 'KofiMania' five years ago

At WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston defeated Bryan Danielson—then Danial Bryan—to become the first member of The New Day to hoist the WWE Title. This moment was not originally planned but much like Bryan's 'Yes Movement' in 2014, fans rallied for Kingston to headline The Show of Shows in 2019.

In the aforementioned podcast, the former WWE Champion reflected on winning the belt on the grand stage from one of the industry's best athletes:

"I think originally, our feud, me and Daniel Bryan, was supposed to stop at Fastlane, was right before 'Mania... I think that was supposed to be the culmination of whatever, but being that it was such a huge crowd reaction and people were like demanding that I'd be in that main event. That's what the direction that the company went."

Six months after winning the WWE Title, Kofi Kingston was squashed by Brock Lesnar in the season premiere episode of SmackDown. Former champion Bryan Danielson later stated that it was "the most demoralized" he had ever been, having witnessed Kingston's loss.
