Kofi Kingston's actions were out of left field, popular WWE name says

It is 2024, and the last thing anybody could have anticipated was a Kofi Kingston heel turn. The former WWE Champion has been a babyface for most of his career, barring a brief stint during The New Day's inception 10 years ago.

This past Monday, the group's anniversary celebration segment caught the WWE Universe by surprise, as active members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned heel. Moreover, it is the manner of their turn to the dark side that came out of left field, notes WWE analyst Sam Roberts.

Speaking on Notsam Wrestling, Roberts admitted that a babyface like Kingston destroying his friend Big E on the mic — a man who has been forced to stay away from the ring owing to a freak accident two years ago — had to be seen to be believed:

"I just never saw Kofi Kingston turning," Roberts stated. "Of all the scenarios possible, I did not see Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston turning on Big E. And I think that is because it is so hard to imagine Kofi Kingston as a villain," he added. [From 20:08 to 20:29]

The analyst further stated that if there ever was something that could make the WWE Universe turn on the babyface star, it was in the manner Triple H and Co. booked him on RAW this week.

What did Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods say to Big E during The New Day's celebration on WWE RAW?

On account of their 10-year anniversary, The New Day's celebration was hyped for weeks. On WWE RAW this past Monday, Kingston and Woods headed to the ring. Just when it looked as though they were officially announcing the end of the Booty-O-loving group after weeks of bickering among the two, Big E joined them in the ring, unannounced.

Big E offered his services as the group's manager until he got medically cleared to step back inside the squared circle as a competitor. But Kingston and Woods were having none of it. They both accused E for moving on, unlike other WWE legends such as Edge, Kurt Angle, and Stone Cold Steve Austin, all of whom suffered neck injuries similar to him.

Finally, they dismissed the notion of Big E managing them, forcing the injured star to leave, before the duo made it clear that they would continue as a two-man team.

During the segment, Xavier Woods claimed that Big E would never be able to wrestle again. Whether this is the truth or only a ruse bears watching.
