Kurt Angle calls for donations, explains how USA Athletes need help
WWE legend Kurt Angle recently came forward to show his support for USA Athletes aspiring to perform in the Olympics. He also explained why the donations were necessary.
The USA has been steadily winning a significant number of medals in the Olympics, although they are arguably nowhere near their full potential. Kurt Angle, having been an Olympic athlete himself, is naturally empathetic towards their cause and is doing everything he can to help.
Speaking to WrestleZone, Kurt Angle talked about the athletes he is trying to help. He explained that since the USA does not have a government program to support them, they rely on day jobs to survive, which affects their training time.
“We don’t have that luxury here in the United States. Our athletes for the most part, they have to get jobs,” Angle added. “They have to train around their work schedule. And if they are working around eight to ten hours a day, they are only going to train, two, three, to four hours tops. And that’s not enough to be an Olympic athlete.” (H/T: WrestleZone)
Kurt Angle explained how he worked through his issues for his Olympic medal
Things were not easy for Kurt, either, during his Olympic career. The WWE legend apparently had to do a lot to fund his journey.
When talking about raising money for USA athletes, Kurt Angle also talked about how he could train up to 12 hours a day. He stated:
“Back when I was wrestling, I put on fundraisers. I did spaghetti dinner fundraisers, and I sold autographed photos, and I sold t-shirts, and I had sponsors that stepped up for me. And it worked for me. I made ends meet by doing that. And I was able to train 11 to 12 hours a day. And look what happened. I won a gold medal. So, we know it works. So, these athletes today, they are strapped. Because a lot of these athletes have to get jobs like I said before and it’s really difficult to be able to do both.” (H/T: WrestleZone)
Kurt is no longer an active wrestler, and it remains to be seen whether he will appear in WWE as an onscreen personality.
