Legend hoping for WWE return 23 years after last match on RAW

Dozens of former WWE stars have signed Legends contracts with the company over the last few years. In a recent video, Buff Bagwell revealed he hopes to return one day in some capacity.

Bagwell made his name in WCW between 1991 and 2001. The five-time World Tag Team Champion joined WWE in 2001 after Vince McMahon bought WCW. However, he only competed in one match on RAW before being released.

On his Marcus Buff Bagwell YouTube channel, the 54-year-old referenced his failed attempt to sue his former employers over royalties in 2016. He also expressed an interest in working with the company again:

"When I had that fight with the WWF [WWE] about them not paying me and I tried to sue them for my money, that got ugly, of course, and of course they then don't pay me anything after that, so I have not and do not receive any money from the WWF anymore, or WWE, but hopefully in the future that will change. I would love to be under their umbrella," Bagwell said. [6:17 – 6:41]

The WCW legend also admitted he had to get rid of his car and house after taking a substantial pay cut in 2001.

What happened when Buff Bagwell worked for WWE

On July 2, 2001, Booker T retained the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Buff Bagwell in the main event of RAW.

The match took place at a time when new wrestlers were beginning to establish themselves on RAW after Vince McMahon's WCW purchase. Booker T vs. Bagwell was widely criticized by fans, especially as the match had WCW branding and included a WCW announce team and referee.

While Booker T went on to become a two-time Hall of Famer, the match turned out to be Bagwell's first and last on RAW.
