Linda McMahon breaks silence after major Donald Trump announcement
Former WWE president and CEO Linda McMahon has broken her silence following Donald Trump's recent announcement. McMahon was nominated as Secretary of Education under Trump's second administration set to start next year.
Famoulsy known as Vince McMahon's wife, Linda served as WWE's president and CEO from 1980 to 2009. She also appeared on WWE television occasionally and even took bumps from superstars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kane.
When Trump became president in 2016, Linda was nominated to be the administrator for Small Business Administration. The Senate confirmed her position, and she served until early 2019. She resigned to become the chairwoman of America First Action, one of the Super PACs for Trump's re-election campaign in 2020.
Fast-forward to Tuesday, November 19, the president-elect nominated Linda McMahon to be the Secretary of Education. Trump described the former WWE executive as an advocate for parents' rights to make decisions about education for their families.
In a post on X/Twitter, Linda released a statement regarding her nomination:
"I am deeply honored and humbled for this opportunity and I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure every student has access to a quality education. I've witnessed the transformative power of education, both in the classroom and also in apprenticeship programs. All students should be equipped with the necessary skills to prepare them for a successful future."
Before officially becoming the Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon will need to be confirmed by the Senate. Donald Trump is set to be sworn into the presidency on January 2025.
Linda McMahon confirmed to be separated from Vince McMahon
Several hours after Donald Trump announced Linda McMahon's nomination as Secretary of Education, her legal counsel, Laura Brevetti, confirmed her relationship status. Linda and Vince McMahon are separated, although it's unclear when it actually happened, as per the Washington Post.
The McMahons have been married since 1966 and have two children together, Shane and Stephanie. Sports Illustrated reported there were rumors of their separation in 2022, but the family never confirmed it until Tuesday.
Vince McMahon stepped down from his role in WWE after a federal investigation began regarding Janel Grant's lawsuit.
