Liv Morgan recalls 30-year-old WWE star trying to stop her from winning Money in the Bank contract
Liv Morgan has reflected on winning the Women's Money in the Bank contract in 2022. She also recalled former WWE authority figure Sonya Deville trying to stop her from competing in the match.
The RAW star defeated Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Lacey Evans, Raquel Rodriguez, and Shotzi to walk out with the briefcase. The same night, she cashed it on Ronda Rousey to win her first title in WWE, the SmackDown Women's Championship. She only held the title once for 98 days.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet in a recent interview, Liv Morgan reflected on becoming Ms. Money in the Bank by stating that she had to compete in many bouts to qualify for the ladder match, but 30-year-old Sonya Deville kept refusing her. She went on to win the match and the briefcase.
“I feel like at that point it was probably the most opportunity I was given up to that point. I was getting promos in the ring, I was getting a lot of singles matches, and they were kinda building me. I remember during that time, Sonya Deville was the GM and she would not let me into this match. So there were actually no qualifiers, she just was like, yeah, you could be in this match, you could be in this match," said Morgan.
She added:
"And then I was qualifying and winning matches, and she still wouldn’t put me in this match. And remember, it was week after week, I was having to prove myself, hey, please just give me the opportunity to put me in this match. And so I kind of had this build, leading into it and she finally let me in the match. And so I feel like there was kind of, the start of the rise.”
Could Liv Morgan win her second Women's World Title at WWE King and Queen of the Ring?
The 28-year-old star won the Women's World Championship in 2022 when it was still known as the SmackDown Women's Title.
She's only held one singles title in her entire wrestling career.
However, Liv Morgan could change that in a few weeks at WWE King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia, as she'll challenge Becky Lynch for the coveted title.
It'll be interesting to see whether she'll be the one to put an end to The Man's reign.
Do you think Liv Morgan deserves another title run?
