Liv Morgan reflects on winning her first WWE Women's Title from Ronda Rousey
An argument can be made that Liv Morgan is the breakout WWE athlete of 2024 because of the star value she raised during her rivalry with Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch. She opened up about her "ride or die" fans recently.
When asked about them, Morgan reflected on her first WWE Women's Title win at Money in the Bank two years ago against ex-UFC mauler Ronda Rousey. The Miracle Kid had won the titular bout and cashed in the same night. Throughout Rousey's stint with World Wrestling Entertainment, Liv Morgan remains the only star who has picked up several pinfall wins over her.
In an interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, Liv Morgan noted how happy the WWE Universe was for her. She recounted spending a few minutes with the fans on the premium live event, celebrating her huge win:
"When I cashed in on Ronda [Rousey] at Money in the Bank and became SmackDown Women's Champion, got my first women's title, like, you guys saw a minute and a half of that celebration—I was out there for like five minutes, and the whole time, they were so happy for me. They kept cheering for me. And I'm just standing in the ring, looking at my title. They're on their feet, just like, cheering for me," Liv Morgan recalled. [From 50:49 onwards]
The Women's World Champion further admitted that she still goes back and watches that moment as it was very special to her. Ronda Rousey challenged her again at SummerSlam that year, failing to reclaim the title. At Extreme Rules in October, Rousey defeated Morgan to finally win it back.
Ronda Rousey was disappointed with her Extreme Rules match against Liv Morgan
Ronda Rousey wrote in her second autobiography, Our Fight, which was released after her WWE exit in the summer of 2023, about her ideas for the Extreme Rules match against Liv Morgan in the eponymous premium live event.
According to the ex-UFC star, she wanted to use thumbtacks and force Morgan to pass out to her armbar, which would have helped elevate her opponent as well as give fans a bout worthy of the namesake event. However, she added that WWE's creative team shot down the idea, which left her utterly disillusioned with how the company works.
Rousey's final opponent in WWE was Shanya Baszler, who discussed The Baddest Woman on the Planet upon the latter's exit. Baszler credited her real-life friend for doing a lot for women's sports.
