Liv Morgan says she was "upset" ahead of WWE debut
Despite a definitive loss this past Saturday at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, Women's World Champion Liv Morgan has enough to bask in the glory as 2024 was her breakout year. Morgan started on the main roster as a tag team wrestler several years ago, as a part of the women-only faction dubbed, The Riott Squad.
While discussing her run with The Riott Squad recently, The Miracle Kid admitted that she was "a little bit upset" with WWE's creative plans for her initially on the main roster. However, she ran with it nevertheless.
In an interview with Inside The Ropes, Liv Morgan articulated how she perceived herself coming to World Wrestling Entertainment, which was as a singles competitor. This is what upset her when she was paired with Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan at the time. However, in hindsight, she noted that it was necessary for her development.
"Way more important for my development than I thought or knew at the time. I remember I was actually a little bit upset, in a way, just because I didn’t view myself as a tag team wrestler, I viewed myself as a singles competitor. Also, I was only a singles competitor up until that time, so I wasn’t too excited at the thought of it, even though I was so excited at the thought of finally being on RAW or SmackDown," Liv Morgan said.
The Riott Squad debuted seven years ago. Liv Morgan also said in the aforementioned interview that she instantly clicked with her stablemates and realized pretty quickly how much she needed them.
While Sarah Logan continues to perform in WWE as Valhalla, Ruby Riott left in June 2021 and subsequently signed with AEW.
Liv Morgan explains the difference between The Riott Squad and The Judgment Day
During a recent interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, Liv Morgan was asked about what had changed since her time with The Riott Squad and her current run as a member of The Judgment Day. Mostly, she was asked about the difference between the two experiences.
The Women's World Champion articulated the significance of The Judgment Day as opposed to The Riott Squad, which was a smaller entity in WWE. Morgan labeled her alliance with Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan as a "sisterhood," but noted that her current run was undoubtedly her best.
"So different. Riott Squad was an all-female faction. We created chaos, but in a different way. We were cutting people's ties. Throwing ketchup on doors. I don't know what we were doing. It's like, the joke's on us guys," Morgan said. "Now The Judgment Day, we are still causing chaos, but in a much more mean and intentional and grown up way. I'm just not that little girl anymore."
At Survivor Series: WarGames, Rhea Ripley pinned Liv Morgan to score the win for her team inside the cage. It remains to be seen if this translates into a title match in the future. As of this writing, Ripley's WarGames teammate IYO SKY is next in line to face the Women's World Champion.
