Major botch involving Gunther could have ended horribly, explains veteran; believes WWE star had to do better

A WWE star committed a major botch during his recent match against Gunther. Veteran manager Jim Cornette believes this could've ended horribly.

Damian Priest has tried to get back into the World Title picture and even found himself in a match against the Ring General at Survivor Series. However, Finn Balor got involved and attacked the Archer of Infamy. As a result, a triple-threat match was announced for the title at Saturday Night's Main Event.

However, the night could've ended badly for Damian Priest, who went for a running dive over the top rope but barely clipped the back of the Ring General's head before crashing to the floor.

Speaking on The Experience, Jim Cornette reviewed the World Heavyweight Championship match and said that Priest's dive over the top rope looked like a flat tire. He said Gunther tried to bend to catch him but Priest looked like he gave himself a backdrop over the top rope.

"Gunther is on the floor and Priest turns his back and runs all the way to the other side of the ring so he gets a head of steam so he can run all the way across the ring, and when he pushed off to dive over the top, it looked like a flat tire happened and he barely, cannonballing over the top rope, barely cleared the top rope and landed in front of Gunther. Gunther bent forward trying to get under him, and all it ended up doing for Gunther was, Priest, when he landed in front of Gunther, he kicked Gunther in the back of the head on the way down, and it was like Priest just gave himself a backdrop over the top rope into a flat back bump onto the floor." Peter Rosenberg wants John Cena to end Gunther's title reign at WWE WrestleMania 41

The Ring General has been a champion for 80 percent of his time in WWE. He held the NXT UK Championship for over 800 days and the Intercontinental Championship for over 600 days. He has already looked dominant as the World Heavyweight Champion. However, a WWE analyst wants his title reign to end at WrestleMania 41.

During a recent interview with ZASLOW SHOW 2.0, Peter Rosenberg said he wanted to see John Cena return, win the 2025 Royal Rumble match, and then win the World Title from the Ring General at WrestleMania 41.

"I want him to beat Gunther at WrestleMania. I've had enough of him losing. I'd love for him to win the Rumble. It would be his third. I think that ties him with [Stone Cold Steve Austin] for most Rumble wins. Then he could go [break] Ric Flair's record. I would love it," he said. [29:38 - 29:55]

If the Ring General loses his title at WrestleMania 41, then this will be his shortest title reign in WWE.
