Major concern raised about The New Day story's current status and future in WWE by ex-writer (Exclusive)

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods betraying Big E was expected to lead to a bigger WWE storyline around The New Day. However, Vince Russo seems underwhelmed by the apparent lack of direction.

During the trio's 10th anniversary celebrations, Kofi and Xavier engaged in a deeply personal back-and-forth with Big E. The duo accused their longtime partner of deserting them after he injured his neck.

Kingston and Woods also insinuated that Big E wasn't trying hard enough to return from a potentially career-ending injury. The visual of a disappointed Big E instantly made Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods into two of the most hated heels currently on TV. The crowd booed the former tag team champions furiously last week, proving they have some nuclear heat.

From the narrative's standpoint, however, Vince Russo didn't feel WWE had done anything to advance the story. He believed WWE has no long-term plans for the angle, as he noted on the Legion of RAW:

"They probably have no idea where they are going with this, Chris. I guarantee you. This is what they do when they don't know what to do with something... We've seen them two weeks now, and the story has not moved forward at all." [From 37:40 onwards]

Whether or not Big E makes an in-ring comeback, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have way too much momentum now as heartless villains for WWE to let it all go to waste as a new year beckons.
