Major former WWE Superstar joining AEW would be the biggest thing to happen in years, says veteran
Several big former WWE Superstars have joined AEW over the past few years, including Mercedes Mone, Adam Copeland, and Chris Jericho. However, wrestling veteran Francine believes another ex-WWE star signing with Tony Khan's promotion would be the biggest thing to happen in years.
The former superstar in question is Shane McMahon. Vince McMahon's son has reportedly had some talks with an AEW talent. Khan even responded to these rumors, stating that Shane O'Mac is welcome to join his company.
On an episode of her Eyes Up Here podcast, Francine discussed the matter, claiming the move would be a slap in the face of the McMahon family. She also stated that it would be the biggest thing to happen in years.
"This is mind-blowing because if that were to happen, this would be such a smack in the face to the McMahon family, I feel. Even though Vince has nothing to do with it anymore, you think of a McMahon and you think of WWE for life. You would never think of a McMahon crossing over and appearing on somebody else's TV. At least I wouldn't. I would never think that. Although, if it happened, I would pop like a little schoolgirl, not gonna lie. That would be the biggest thing to happen in years in my opinion," she said. [From 58:45 to 59:22]
Ex-WWE star thinks Shane McMahon wouldn't be a draw in AEW
On the Gigantic Pop podcast, former WWE Superstar Matt Morgan addressed the possibility of Shane McMahon signing with AEW. He claimed the former SmackDown Commissioner could play a General Manager role in Tony Khan's promotion.
However, the 47-year-old predicted Vince McMahon's son would not be a draw for AEW.
"There's not much [AEW can do with Shane McMahon]. I mean, you're right. What would you do with him? He's not gonna wrestle. If he wrestles, that's a one night. It's not even a draw. No disrespect to Shane. I love Shane. He's one of the good McMahons. But seriously, I don't know what you know unless his creative [...] Was he considered like really creative when he was [in WWE] I don't remember if he was [...] If they used him as that okay as a GM that would be a good role," he said.
Shane McMahon last appeared in a wrestling ring at WrestleMania 39. It would be interesting to see if his next appearance would surprisingly be in Tony Khan's promotion.
