Major name accuses WWE of not paying for popular World Champion’s theme song

A theme song plays a vital role in the overall presentation of the character being portrayed by a WWE Superstar. Over the years, performers have been using music composed by a wide range of artists from all over the globe. American musician, Sonny Sandoval, recently made a massive revelation as he accused the Stamford-based company of not paying his band for a former world champion's theme song.

The superstar in question is Hall of Famer, Rey Mysterio. The former WWE Champion has been using the iconic 'Booyaka 619' as his entry music for nearly two decades. The theme created by the American band P.O.D has stayed with the Luchador for all those years.

During his recent appearance on the Drinks with Johnny podcast, the lead vocalist and co-founder of the popular band, Sonny Sandoval, stated that WWE often asks artists if the company can use music composed by them without offering any compensation.

He said the global juggernaut often leverages its massive brand name and tells artists how much exposure they would get from the company just for using their music, instead of wanting to pay up. He further mentioned that Rey Mysterio still uses the theme song to this day despite the band not receiving any monetary benefits in return for their composition.

"Sometimes we’ve done stuff with WWE, and because WWE is so huge, they’re so powerful of an empire, even back then. But they can say, ‘Can we use your music?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Okay. We’re not gonna pay you for it. But because we’re WWE, you’re gonna get so much press’, and you know what I mean? ‘And get so much hype, and at some point, you’re like, ‘Dang, okay.’ I guess so. Because even now, I still hear it when Rey comes out. Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania. […] You’re like, ‘Dude, they’re still playing our jam.’ Big shout out to Mad One. It’s like, they’re still playing our tune, but we ain’t seeing none of that. […] It’s a game bro. It’s a game," he said. [H/T: Ringside News]
