Major name breaks silence on very 'real' career outside WWE; alleges he would have 'considered' quitting
A top WWE star has revealed that he considered quitting pro wrestling before signing a new deal to stay with the company. He thought of using his master's degree to pursue a different career outside of wrestling.
Chad Gable's contract was supposed to end last month before he signed a new deal that will keep him in WWE for years to come. But before agreeing to extend his stay with the promotion, Gable contemplated many things, including the possibility of using his master's degree and working in Hollywood.
In an appearance on the Cheap Heat podcast with Peter Rosenberg, the former Olympian shared his potential plans if he didn't sign a new contract with WWE.
"It's great for everybody to have options. Everybody will quickly jump to the conclusion that if I were to not re-sign, I'd be going somewhere else. The reality is, [that] the master's degree thing is real. I do have the degrees and I have other interests. Motion graphics, filmmaking, all these things. Production is very interesting to me and a passion of mine. I thought a cool aspect that some people tend to do is that when their contracts come up or when they're done wrestling, they just disappear and ride off into the sunset. It's not some big fanfare. That's the way I always saw myself," Gable said.
The multi-time champion added that he was considering numerous career options until last month.
"Who knows? I don't know what I would have done. I may have tried to go to Hollywood and tried making films or title sequences. I don't know where my head was at. I was kind of open to everything for a while there as I was considering it. I always like the idea of once you're done, just drift off and people say goodbye, and that's it, you're done." For those unaware, Chad Gable has a legitimate master's degree in media design from Full Sail University in Florida.
Chad Gable credits Triple H for his decision to stay in WWE
In an interview with The Gorilla Position podcast last month, Chad Gable confirmed that he had inked a new contract with WWE. Gable credited Triple H as one of the main reasons why he stayed with the company and continued wrestling.
"Yes, I have. What I'll say, regarding Hunter, when he got started with us and took over. I think you saw my trajectory change almost immediately. Even when I was in a tag team with Otis, I started getting singles matches with some of our top guys. To me, a light bulb went off, 'Things might be different now,' and they have been ever since. He's delivered on everything he's ever told me," Gable said. [H/T: TJRWrestling]
Chad Gable may have failed to win the Intercontinental Championship from Sami Zayn, but he has got a chance to win the Money in the Bank briefcase. He is also part of a storyline with The Wyatt Sicks.
